There are a lot of people in the world who have embraced a vegetarian diet, and praise its benefits for the body and health. Many of these people decided this was not enough, and wanted to go vegan and expand the benefits of eating healthy. Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the Labor Party in the UK, has been an adept of vegetarianism for almost 50 years. Now, he has decided to make the transition to the second type of animal-free diet.
What’s the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan?
Vegetarians are known for not consuming any kind of animal meat, namely neither pork, beef, chicken, or fish. Vegans go even further than that. They do not consume any kind of food or product which has been derived from an animal. This includes milk, eggs, cheese, or butter. The debate is still up regarding honey, but some vegans choose to consume this product.
Corbyn worked on a pig farm when he was 20, and this is when he decided he had to become a vegetarian. After almost 50 years, he now decided he wanted to take a step further and become a vegan. However, the process is not that easy. He has started transitioning slowly to veganism, including more such meals day after day.
“One of my close relatives has just become a vegan and I went to her house for dinner and it was absolutely brilliant.”
Many people might find it hard to go vegan
However, Corbyn might face some difficulties. He is a huge cheese enthusiast, and this might make it really hard for him to go on with the process. Other people who tried the same switch said non-vegan favorite foods are huge obstacles. Also, finding a suitable meal is quite a challenge if they go out to eat.
However, The Vegan Society encourage people not to use hope. Although it might look difficult at the beginning, going vegan is just like any other lifestyle change. With time and a lot of patience, everything is possible.
