As part of NASA’s project of discovering whether Mars is capable of harboring life, the new rover, nicknamed Curiosity, send back some rather peculiar pictures. Curiosity found mice on Mars or so we are led to believe when we take a closer look at the pictures.
At the time the pictures where posted, many conspiracy theory fans forged ahead into interpreting what can be in the image posted on NASA’s website. A youtubers actually manage to digitally enhance the photos posted by NASA.
Remember all fuss and scuttlebutt surrounding those shadowy pictures snapped out on Loch Ness Lake? A long neck and a fusiform body sprung out of the water, terrifying the local populace and arousing every conspiracy fan out there. But, in the end it proved to be nothing but hearsay and badly focused camera.
But what about our little mouse issue? Taking a first look at the picture, we are unable to see anything spectacular. Some jaundice-yellowish cliffs, a couple of loose rocks, many pebbles and a sky painted in grey. But out there, on the hill, very close to the horizon, something gets our attention. It could be interference, in could be a reflection or maybe it could be something wrong with the rover itself.
Fact is that the rover is actually showing us a picture of what it appears to be a very large rodent, sitting placidly on a cliff, scouring the horizon. Neither NASA nor the fans managed to make heads of tails of the mysterious photographs. Until now, all the data gathered by so many mechanical rover has revealed nothing regarding life on Mars. All was quiet on the Martian front. Nothing seem to indicate that the planet itself is capable of sustaining life.
It may very well be that, somewhere in the past, the Red Planet had a biota. Even scientific data confirms that the surface of Mars used to be littered with stream, rivers and even an ocean. But, as they say, this is ancient history, a bygone debate that only the rising Martian dust could settle.
Whether this photograph is actually the evidence who sought or not, we cannot say for sure. And neither can the specialists at NASA. Both the picture and the videos are being processed and analyzed as we speak to see if the picture is indeed genuine and to ensure that there are no discrepancies.
If Curiosity found mice on Mars is still a matter opened for debate, but most specialists out there are inclined to say that the picture actually captures a Martian version of the Fata Morgana.
