Seeing animals in distress, no matter the size or how aggressive they are, is altogether heartbreaking. The beached whale from Galveston was euthanised after the medical specialists did everything they could in order to save the gentle giant.
The distressed marine mammal has been discovered by an individual who was taking a stroll on Galveston’s West Beach. Realising that there might be something amiss with the sea creature, the kind stranger called the local marine authorities in order to help the whale.
Minutes later the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network, an association which takes great pride in helping marine creatures in distress, has dispatched a team at the scene in order to assess the mammal’s condition.
Arriving at the scene, the TMMSN members have discovered a 40-foot long whale, lying unconscious on the beach. The team proceeded into examining the sea creature. Upon a closer look, the team realised that the gentle sea giant might be ill.
No information have been disclosed regarding the whale’s gender, age or species. But we did find out one thing. Despite the team’s efforts to help and treat the beached whale, in the end, they could do nothing for it.
And so, the marine experts had reached the conclusion that putting down the whale might be the best choice in the situation. The beached whale from Galveston was euthanised in order to end its suffering.
But the team was keen on finding what caused the whale to come so close to the shore. Reporters who arrived at the scene described how the team of marine experts was struggling to drag the cadaver of the whale on the beach. There they will perform a necropsy in order to determine the cause of death.
According to the man’s testimony, the distressed whale was found approximately 50 yards from the shoreline. Whitehead, the man in charge of the association stated in a press conference that his team did everything humanly possible in order to help the whale. Unfortunately, in the end, there was nothing they could do short of euthanised her.
A full necropsy will be performed on Wednesday in order to determine the cause of death. Moreover, it would seem that the whale lingered for quite some time on the beach before it was discovered by that man. Upon closer examination, the team found a couple of abrasions of the whale. Normally, those abrasions would appear as a result of the mammal staying too much on the land. It may very well be that the whale was crushed by its own weight.
