Female employees complained about Apple’s environment, saying it promotes sexism and discrimination.
One of the emails received from a female engineer working at Apple contained information about her being constantly harassed at work. Seems like Apple’s environment is not that friendly.
“I do not feel safe at a company that tolerates individuals who make rape jokes,”
she wrote to Tim Cook, CEO of Apple Company, in an email received by MIC.
When she tried to solve the issue by emailing to the CEO of the company, Tim Cook, he did not respond to her email. Another employee said she was told by a male manager to ‘smile more’, citing that Apple’s environment is not suitable for female employees.
The woman who wrote and sent the email told Mic that a number of employees constantly quit their job, citing a ‘white, male, Christian, misogynist, sexist environment’ –and those employees were not given exit interviews, as it is supposed to, because the company didn’t think their quitting was a concern. “Their departure is being written up as a positive attrition,” she said.
Furthermore, MIC spoke to a former man employee too, who had complained about the discriminating and toxic environment multiple times while working at Apple. He said that his colleagues constantly made fun of him, saying he has his ‘man period’ as a way of joking with him and insulting him.
“Any male can tell you that being referred to as a woman is an insinuation that you are not strong enough or stable enough to handle the difficulties of life or work in the way a man can.” ,
he said in the email sent to Mic.
Another woman complained about the sexist attitude of the company, saying she was never given the opportunity to advance in the company. She applied for two positions she was qualified for, but the male boss selected two men instead. When emailing to Cook about her complaint, she failed to get a reply.
When contacting an Apple spokesperson, he declared that they take these complaints really seriously, and they try to solve them as soon as possible, but failed to give an example of this kind of event or trying to explain how they deal with this problem.
