Even if the Apple Watch has not yet been released, dozen of developers are working on apps that would be used it.
Apple wants its watch to make people healthier and to help them communicate more easily, but to achieve this the gadget needs apps. The company published the WatchKit SDK in last November as a guideline for designers and programmers.
Apple Watch will have a few major apps installed on it when it ships. Apps like Instagram, ESPN or American Airlines are among them, but the Cupertino based company wants more.
Apple invited dozens of developers at its headquarters to help them in their work. This is quite a dilemma for Apple, as developers had troubles to build apps for the iPad also. In the case of the first iPhone, designers and programmers had more than a year’s time to create their apps before the App Store was launched, but in more recent times, the apps are expected to appear immediately after a new device is launched.
The developers of apps for the Apple Watch can’t access the sensors of the new gadget and they also can’t make native apps, but these restrictions didn’t discourage their efforts.
Most of the already popular apps, like the group collaboration platform Trello will be modified to suit the needs of the new Apple Watch. The app will offer notifications about project schedules, but will also take voice dictation and respond to comments.
Todoist, which is a to-do list app, will show the tasks for the day on the Watch screen, and also offer more information about each one.
The Starwood Hotels & Resorts SPG app will make possible for Watch users to unlock hotel room doors, with the help of a key-less function.
The Apple Watch starting price is $349, a reasonable price in the smart-watch market. G Watch R, made by LG and powered by Android Wear, sells for $299, while the new Urbane watch is expected to cost even more.
The costs of the Apple Watch could go up depending on customization. The buyers can choose between 12 case models and more than 20 bands, but also many more expensive features.
Some tech experts suggest that a link bracelet will cost more than $1,000, while a gold bracelet could make the Apple Watch the most expensive product in the company’s catalog, at $20,000.
