An Algerian man is facing two years in prison after photographing himself holding a toddler and dangling him out the window. The disturbed individual did this in order to attract more “likes” on his social media page. Even more shocking, the parents of the child whose life was put in danger for the sake of fleeting celebrity are on the Algerian man’s side. They begged authorities to dismiss everything as a joke.
The Picture Was Allegedly Altered
According to the Algerian man’s defense attorney, the controversial image was modified, the real photo session being much more PG. It seems that the unnamed individual was visiting his relatives (the parents of the child) and they decided to do an impromptu comical photo shoot on the balcony.
The apartment, situated on the 15th floor of a building located in Algiers, the capital of Algeria, is equipped with protective bars. To make the photo more interesting and to attract more social media dwellers to click like on the post, the accused digitally modified the photo, removing the safety bars to make it seem like he was dangling the obviously distressed infant from the 15th floor.
The Algerian Man Will Have 2 Years to Think About His Actions
Even after the father of the child pleaded with the authorities, explaining that the man, who is a close relative, should not be prosecuted because of a joke, the authorities were not convinced of the individual’s innocence. A court in Algeria decided to sentence him to 2 years in prison for child endangerment.
The sentence may seem harsh, but some social media users are adamantly asking for an even more severe punishment, accusing the man of child abuse.
To Sum It Up
The Algerian man posted a photo of himself holding a toddler over a balcony situated on the 15th floor. The image was accompanied by the caption “1,000 likes or I will drop him.” Authorities immediately took action and sentenced the man to two years in prison.
